There are four species of pachysandra; all of which are evergreen or semi-evergreen. Pachysandra is grown for the ground covering foliage. Allegheny spurge (Pachysandra procumbens) is native to the southeastern U.S. and isn’t as invasive as some of its relatives. This type also has fragrant white flowers and grows well in shade gardens. Plant in moderately moist, but well draining soil; cannot tolerate extremely dry soil.

  • Shade to Part Sun
  • Evergreen to semi-evergreen, depending on species
  • May have fragrant flowers
  • Mature size varies 6-12 inches depending on species
