A self-fruiting olive prized for its dark brown fruit with highly aromatic oil content that ripens in fall, and the attractive, silvery green foliage. Highly adaptable, it produces abundantly in hot dry climates. This evergreen is capable of withstanding temperatures as low as 5 degrees. Makes a beautiful specimen shrub or small tree.

Shade Azaleas

These are the more traditional azaleas that prefer morning sun or filtered afternoon sun. For areas with more sun, check out our Encore Azaleas. Azaleas grow best in well-drained soil with regular waterings. To help roots get as much oxygen as possible, plant them about an inch above the surrounding soil level, making sure that any exposed roots are covered with a thin layer of soil and then mulch and water well. Prune after spring bloom. Feed with Ferti-Lome Azalea Evergreen Food with Systemic Insecticide after spring bloom to both protect from lacebug damage and help next years’ bloom development. Most of these azaleas are evergreen but there are deciduous varieties also; these usually have yellow, orange or pink blooms.

This is a large category and contains plants that vary greatly in size and bloom color, from white to pink, purple, and reds. Gumpo Azaleas are low growing, while Formosa Azaleas get quite large in size, and there are many varieties in between!

Rose Drift

Rose Knockout

Hydrangea

Hydrangeas are favorites in warmer climate gardens and for good reason! They offer huge bouquets of clustered flowers in various arrangements, flower color, and blooming time. Here is a quick breakdown; mopheads are the traditional large spheres of small flowers, lacecaps feature a flat bloom with open flowers surrounding the center of non-flowering bracts, and paniculata and Oakleaf hydrangeas offer long, often very large cone-shaped bracts of flowers. Because species differ and may bloom on new or old wood, which affects pruning, we suggest reading this blog post before pruning your hydrangeas. Hydrangea forms vary greatly too; anywhere from climbing hydrangea, shrubs of various size and even trees. Some hydrangeas may change color depending on soil pH, although not all do so. In general, to turn pink hydrangeas blue, check the soil pH and add aluminum sulfate in the spring to a pH range of 5.2 to 5.5. Oakleaf hydrangeas feature both oak-like leaves that turn red and burgundy in the fall plus they display exfoliating bark in the winter. There are new varieties that offer reblooming, large blooms on small plants and lime green foliage. Smaller varieties work well in containers and small gardens. Hydrangeas make excellent fresh cut flowers and dried flowers.

Encore Azalea

Encore Azaleas are evergreen, reblooming azaleas; most azaleas bloom in the spring only… the Encore series displays a full bloom in the spring, sporadic blooms in the summer and an additional full bloom in the fall. Prune to shape after spring bloom. To achieve best flowering, apply Ferti-Lome Azalea Evergreen Food with Systemic Insect Control after spring blooms fade and throughout the summer.

Camellia

Camellias have much to offer a shade landscape area; these shrubs feature year-round glossy, dark green foliage and display stunning single or double blooms in the winter. There are thousands of camellia hybrids, offering a large palette of colors from white and bicolors to the deepest red. There are large varieties, which can be formed into small trees or lower growing shrub types. There are two main species of camellia; sasanqua camellias bloom in the late fall to early winter and have smaller leaves where as japonica camellias bloom in the late winter or early spring and typically have larger leaves.
