The Good Earth Garden Center began in 1974 as a retail garden center and nursery.  Over the years, it has expanded greatly and now offers a myriad of landscape services, a gift shop and is considered a one-stop-shop for anything garden or landscape.  We love to have fun, work hard, be creative and help customers fall in love with their outdoor spaces. Seasonal Cashier

Job description

The Good Earth Garden Center is seeking a temporary cashier to supplement our full time staff during our busy spring season.  This position begins in February and will continue through our Spring peak season (weather dependent but typically, middle to end of May). Our hours during the peak season are 7 am to 6 pm Monday – Saturday and Sundays, 11 am to 5 pm. Training is provided but most training is on the job learning.

Necessary skills

  • Can multi-task with ease, is customer focused, always has a great attitude, comfortable and efficient with point of sale software, good communication skills, exemplary communication skills (in person, radio, phone, email, written)

Responsibilities

  • Arrives promptly
  • Identifies customer concerns and quickly addresses in order to meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Welcomes a positive customer experience with prompt, friendly, and capable service.
  • Registers sales on a cash register by scanning items, itemizing and totaling customers’ purchases.
  • Resolves customer issues and answers questions.
  • Bags purchases if needed.
  • Processes return transactions.
  • Understands, explains and answers questions about Dirt Dollars; Good Earth’s loyalty program.
  • Collects payments by accepting cash, check, or charge payments from customers and makes change for cash customers.
  • Verifies credit acceptance by reviewing and recording driver’s license number; and operating credit card authorization systems.
  • Provides pricing information by answering questions.
  • Maintains checkout operations by following policies and procedures (such as deliveries and plantings).
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school certificate, at minimum
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • One year experience in retail customer service
  • First hand experience in using point of sale software
  • Must be willing to work weekends
  • Be mentally flexible and willing to change directions often and multi-task while maintaining a great attitude
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Is aligned with Good Earth Core Values of positive attitude, respect, teamwork, integrity, creativity, flexibility, learning, accountability, work ethic and community minded

Landscape Designer/Project Manager

Responsibilities

Evaluate potential projects, develop sales, create designs, and prepare accurate estimate. Ensure the project is installed in a timely manner, satisfies the customer’s requirements as defined prior to installation, and achieves The Good Earth’s standards of quality.  You are the liaison between The Good Earth Landscape Team and the customer.

Identify project requirements by effectively working with potential customers and document their needs in a clear manner.  You must be able to communicate effectively with both external and internal customers and team members.  You must be able to manage a project from beginning to end.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture or related field or 5 years’ experience in landscape design. Examples of work are required.
  • Working knowledge of horticulture.
  • Proficient in all elements of landscape design.
  • Proficient in CAD design, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to visualize finished product.

  • Strong work ethic.
  • Honesty, integrity, and a strong desire to succeed.

  • Must have excellent skills in listening and written and verbal communication.

Irrigation Technician

We are currently looking to add a dynamic irrigation technician to our passionate team of landscape professionals.  Your office is outdoors, and you get a new view every day!

What you’ll do

  • Cultivate your green career with us!
  • Enhance the appearance and value of properties through installation and maintenance of all types of irrigation equipment in commercial and residential landscapes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair of lines and sprinkler heads.
  • Complete set-up for irrigation controllers.
  • Maintain open communication with management and clients to provide feedback on irrigation needs.
  • Drive, use, maintain and properly operate landscape equipment and vehicles.

What we’re seeking

  • Landscape irrigation installation and maintenance knowledge.
  • Knowledge on various controllers and the Rainbird, Hunter, and HydroWise Systems.

Preferred: experience in lighting installation and servicing
